The Tobago Cays are a marine park comprised of a group of small, deserted islands protected to east by Horseshoe Reef. The local waters, which are varying shades of turquoise blue, support a vast array of sea life, including a rather large population of sea turtles. Although recent hurricanes have severely [...]

The shore along Admiralty Bay

We left early the next morning for Bequia, the largest of the Grenadine islands. We enjoyed an exhilarating sail under reefed main in 20 -25k winds with 8-10 ft seas. Only when we were to leeward of St. Vincent did the wind & seas moderate.
Once ashore in Port Elizabeth [...]

The Pitons

We enjoyed a brisk sail between Martinique & St. Lucia. As we rounded Anse Chastanet, the view of the Pitons jutting vertically out of the sea was breathtaking. After securing a mooring off the Bat Caves, we stood in awe of our surroundings. Utterly beautiful.
The wall next [...]

Fort de France & Marin

Arriving in Fort De France shortly after noon, we dropped anchor off Fort St. Louis then proceeded into Sea Services chandlery to clear customs (a simple electronic self-registration process.) Not speaking (or understanding) French, our short walk through the city was an adventure in itself. The [...]

As our small flotilla exited Iles Des Saints, we were greeted with 18-22 k winds & 3-5’ seas on the beam. Although not terrible conditions, it did make for a bumpy crossing to Dominica.

Our plan to spend 7-10 days in Dominica touring the island & exploring the country’s rainforest, waterfalls, rivers, [...]

Iles des Saintes

Arriving just before sunset, we found the anchorage off Bourg De Saints crowded with boats vying for the ‘shallower’ depths close to shore. Uncomfortable ‘squeezing’ between boats in fading sunlight, we motored back to a shallow anchorage off the small island of Ilet Cabrit.
During the night the winds [...]

Getting nervous being so far north in mid-June, we decide to stop for a night at the anchorage adjacent to Pigeon Island to explore the Cousteau Underwater Park. Arriving late in the afternoon, we enjoyed a brief swim/snorkel in the anchorage prior to dinner. The next morning, hoping to find a café [...]

6/06/08 to 6/09/08
Running low on fuel & needing to replace a hose for our watermaker, we headed southeast to Antigua. After an hour of enduring the short, yet steep-faced seas, the crew of Alegria decided to fall off & head southwest to Montserrat. We, along with Salida & Fine Line, continued on arrived [...]

Tamarind Bay, Charlestown & Pinney Beach
We’re off again! We’ll be rendezvousing with Anne & Steve (Fine Line) in Tamarind Bay. After dropping anchor at 4:30 PM, we had just enough time to snorkel the rocky shoreline prior to dinner.
The next morning we headed a couple miles south to the capital, Charlestown, to clear [...]

6/02/08 to 6/03/08

After a 3-hour trip through short, choppy seas & freshening southeast winds, we arrived at Oranje Baii, the bay adjacent to Statia’s capital city of Oranjstad. Once secured to a marine park mooring, we dinghied into town to clear in. After the formalities were complete, we set out to find [...]
